Announcing more acts for V-ROX 2017 — National Pigeon Unity, Jan&Naomi and Elektromonteur!
We are announcing a new batch of artists for V-ROX ‘V’, whom you will have the chance to see between 4-6 August in Vladivostok. We are excited to be welcoming one of the symbols of South Korean underground music, indie rockers National Pigeon Unity. Talented electronic duet from Moscow; Eletromonteur — a band which positions them selves as if Brian Ferry started to sing in Russian with Depeche Mode after one to many drinks and a insanely quiet Japanese duet Jan & Naomi.
Imagine if Bryan Ferry got wasted and started performing with Depeche Mode in Russian. That’s Elektromonteur. They played with Alex Clare, Jay-Jay Johanson, Oh! Wonder and Marc Almond. Ann Demeulemeester, aperol, minor planets, ice and tears, uv and acryl — all this is to be found in Elektromonteur.
National Pigeon Unity (NPU) is a two-piece alternative rock band from South Korea consisting of guitarist «kidohu» and drummer «Mok». NPU was formed in 2007. We have had more than 1000 live shows. Our third full-length album «Hero» released in 2016. We’re gonna make you say «Awesome!».
Jan&Naomi are a Japanese duo consisting of musician/singer Naomi and Jan Urila sas. After releasing there debut single «A Portrait of the Artis as a Young Man/Time» (2012) and 1st EP «Jan, Naomi are» (2012) there names vastly spread through the music scene of Tokyo. They often describe there genre as «Madly silent music» or «Deadly silent music», though the songs its self is very melodious and sentimental with seizes the hearts of wide age range music fans.
Mumiy Troll premiers their new video for “I Don’t Remember Why”
lya Lagutenko: ‘I dont remember why we decided to make this song as a first single from the forthcoming new album. Maybe its because it was the first song to be recorded from just the first take, and I felt that further studio production for this track was not necessary’.
The new video for the single was directed by Eliot Lee Hazel. ‘My friend Eliot and who is also one of my favourite photographers heard the song. Without even trying to find out the translation for the lyrics he instantly fell in love with it and expressed his inner feelings towards it, which turned out to be exactly the same as my artistic mood therefore for me it was an easy decision to entrust him to shoot this video’ says Ilya Lagutenko.
New Mumiy Troll album which has its working title – ‘South West x East’ is due for release at the end of 2017.
Ulaanbaatar and Vladivostok will become closer: V-ROX and Playtime Festivals will exchange artist
This year two of the most respected festivals in their regions will welcome Starcardigan (Russia) and Rec On (Mongolia).
V-ROX international team has once again struck a partnership agreement, this time with a leading festival in Mongolia. Over the past fourteen years, Playtime festival presented more than 500 music groups and drawn 40,000 people to the festival. The festival has grown its scale from a local live music festival to an international festival since 2013 and presented headliner international music groups at the festival including Peter Hook & The Light (UK), The Pains of Being Pure at Heart (USA), Mono (Japan), Envy (Japan) and V-ROX Festival curators Mumiy Troll (Russia).
Starcardigan from Vladivostok and V-ROX alumni, will take stage at Playtime Festival on 8th of July 2017. They are an electronic pop, nu-disco band, considered to be one of the best emerging talents in Russia among music lovers and industry insiders. In 2016 the band has become a true phenomenon after completing a tour of China which was deemed as the biggest tour in the history of Russian musicians who tour in that particular region. The band went on to find success and has performed on some of the biggest stages in China, including MIDI Festival, Nu Art Festival in Chengdu and City Park Festival Beijing. They have also performed on some of the biggest stages in their home region and supporting the biggest names in Russia such as Mumiy Troll.
Ivan Sosnovtsev, leader of Starcardigan says: “This kind of adventure is already becoming a bit of a habit, we write not only our musical history but also expand the musical history of Russia. Creating and opening new legends, new events, and new mythology is exactly the paradigm of Starcardigan. A trip to Mongolia is a challenge to ourselves. Given the distance from Vladivostok the journey is going to be an adventure, we will probably go via China, through its Western provinces. Steppe riders and their hand snow leopards go further into the unknown countries.”
Rec On is a Mongolian hard rock, blues rock band from Ulaanbaatar, formed in 2011. They draw its artistic influences from a wide range of artists and scenes, such as The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and blues. Their long-awaited debut album “Rec One” is expected to be released later in Autumn of 2017. Catch RecOn performing at the biggest festival of the free port of Vladivostok, 4-6 August 2017.
V-ROX 2017 Second wave of acts — Husky, LudiSTELO, The Marleyns and UHNELLYS
With a busy summer ahead, we are announcing the second wave of acts for the 5th anniversary of V-ROX Festival taking place 4-6 August in the city of Vladivostok! We are delighted to welcome of the most influential young Russian rappers — Husky, the happy and bright Marleyns from Vladivostok, LudiSTELO a space-electro-rock band from South Korea and hip-hop-jazz-rock duo from Japan UHNELLYS.
Husky (Russia, Ulan-Uda/Moscow)
One of the most talked about musicians in the country at this moment of time, for some strange odd reason his songs are so compelling that it is just hard to compare with normal rap. His album ‘Favourite Songs of imaginary People’ is one of the most hyped releases in Russia this year.
LudiSTELO (Seoul, South Korea)
LudiSTELO is an Electronic/Space Rock band from South Korea. They released the very first full length album, Experience, 2014 after releasing three impressive singles previous year.
Through out the rhythm/melody/lyrics, LudiSTELO represents its own style of sonic evolution. Characteristic style of sound producing, Analog synth/electric guitar combined with acoustic drums & Electronic Bass defines LudiSTELO’s color of music. LudiSTELO tells us every experiences and inspirations by the motive “Play A Star, Play The Earth”.
This 3 piece band hopes the listeners to appreciate the beautiful experience of life we’re living in. Since the album came out, the band became one of the most sought-after bands in Korea. So that they are enjoying the busy days as the best newcomer in the country’s music scene. And they also were nominated for The Best Rookies Awards for KOCCA (Korea Creative Contents Agency) the same year.
The Marleyns (Russia, Vladivostok)
If you put all trendy genres aside, The Marleyns are always induced with positive summer feeling, the young act is considered to be as one of the musical ambassadors of Vladivostok. The journey from heart to heart long but with each step people get closer and closer.
Uhnellys are a two-piece indie band from Tokyo, Japan. Kim (rap, varitone guitar and trumpet) and Midi (drums and backing vocals) create an original structure and sound in which the boundaries of rock, hip-hop, and jazz are blurred to create something new. Uhnellys are a rising star in Tokyo and beyond due to Kim’s incredible singing skills and rapping and Midi’s musical skill, energy and sexiness on drums.
Often referred to as a hip-hop, jazz, rock version of the White Stripes, Uhnellys really prove that the voice is also a musical instrument and they use this talent to structure beats and sounds in their songs. Philosophical. Aggressive. Unforgettable.
V-ROX ‘Eco-Saturday’ in Vladivostok!
Year 2017 was declared as the Year of Ecology. This decision will draw public attention towards environmental issues, support the protection of ecological and biological diversity and reinforce ecological security of the country. The Action Plan for the Year of Ecology provides for more than 600 events across all regions of Russia.
This year V-ROX is launching a series of musical eco-saturdays events in partnership with the ‘Island of Dreams’ and Vladivostok City Administration. First event will be ecological team quest ‘Clean Ruskij’, which will take place on the 10th of June on the Ruskij Island.
Participants will gather in teams and compete each in a number of challenges such as photo check-in, quest puzzles and who can clear as much waste and organise in categories. Winners will receive a number of prizes from particiapting project partners. The evening will consist of a musical concert from V-ROX participants – local heroes “The Marleyns” and the rising female talent “mescheryakova”.

V-ROX V: announcing the first wave of acts!
Over the coming months the festival will be announcing artists who will join the fifth year anniversary celebrations. The festival is proud to announce its first four acts. The talented and wonderful Graham Candy (New Zealand), instrumentalists Weary Eyes (Russia), emerging indie talents from the United States Filligar and ethnic electronic duet Echo & Tito (Israel).
A New Zealand-born, German-based singer/songwriter and actor with a distinctive voice and a penchant for clever pop collaborations, the aptly named Graham Candy is a quirky and unpredictable musical confectioner. A student of music, dance, and theater from a very young age, Candy spent the majority of his career in Auckland before relocating to Berlin in 2013, where he lent his voice and writing skills to popular German DJ and producer Alle Farben’s international hit single «She Moves». Collaborations with electro-swing enthusiast Parov Stelar followed in 2014 and DJ Robin Schulz followed in 2015.
After his EP release in 2015, he has now released his debut single “Back Into It” from his debut album «Plan A» which was released on the 6th May 2016. In 2017 Graham Candy has opened doors to Russia and has supported the biggest band Mumiy Troll and more over will be part of major festivals across Russia.
«Dreams don’t work unless you’re willing to work for them first» he sings in «Back Into It», an anthem about hard work. The song shimmers with youthful energy and a gritty synthesizer staccato giving Candy a solid foundation to demonstrate his vocal range.
Weary Eyes is a four-piece instrumental rock band from Moscow, Russia. Fusing together airy keys, juicy hooks, elongated lead guitar lines and a never ending barrage of percussive variance, the band move as one single organism engulfing mediocrity and synthesising wonder.
Hailed as «one of the best young bands in America» Filligar is comprised of the three Mathias brothers — Pete, Teddy, and Johnny—and their lifelong friend, Casey Gibson. The band has headlined sold out shows at some of the USA’s most acclaimed venues, most recently NYC’s Bowery Ballroom, and supported acts such as Counting Crows, The Black Keys, Alabama Shakes, Ben Folds, and My Morning Jacket.
Filligar has a prolific catalog of original music, recognized as «of prestige value» by the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). The band has been called «a fresh take on indie rock» by Paste Magazine, one of music’s «Next Big Things» by SPIN, and «a breath of fresh air» by Consequence of Sound.
Their release Hexagon was named «Best New Music» by American Songwriter magazine, and their earlier album The Nerve was nominated «Best Rock Album» at the Independent Music Awards. They are currently recording a new record, set for release this year.
A duo of music producers, creating together a mad mix of ethnic backgrounds with electronic bass music, dub and hip hop. ECHO is a singer/MC, and TITO is a real sonic explorer/musician. The feminine power Echo brings on, and the deep vibrating beats Tito creates, merge and collide to form a massive synergy that explodes on stage.
After traveling the world for many years, in countries like India Jamaica, Egypt, China, Europe & USA and absorbing the local music cultures, today they are based in Tel Aviv, developing their own unique sound. Together for the past four years they have released their debut album: «Into The Out» in 2013, and their second album «The Bastard» in 2015. These days the two are working on their third album to be released in fall 2017.
Echo & Tito have performed festivals across Europe such as Fusion (DE), Stereoleto (RU), TMW (EE) and along side Infected Mushroom, Balkan Beat Box, Beats Antique.
V-ROX Festival at the Pacific International Tourism Expo
Between 19-21 May 2017 our festival team will take part in the 3rd annual PIT Expo; the most prolific tourism event of the far east of Russia, which will take place on the grounds of FEFU University campus on the ‘Ruskij’ Island.
Over the course of three days, city locals and guests will have a chance to meet local and international delegations from 55 different companies who are based in Russia, China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Guam, Vietnam and other regions.
V-ROX — the main festival of the free port of Vladivostok, will be one of the main participants of the expo representing the ‘Primorye’ region and you will be able to visit the stand and find out all about us and get special promo materials for the 5th year anniversary. Last year the festival received a special recognition award from the department of tourism. The festival strives to not only have its input on the local economy but simply put the city on the map and increase its great potential to be the main destination of the surrounding regions.
